In the last few months, South West College have set up an Alumni scheme. Neil Maguire, from South West College’s Student Services tells Way out West all about it…
So, what is an alumni?
An Alumnus, or Alumni for plural, defines a past pupil of a school, college, or university that has successfully completed their studies at a particular institution – in this case, South West College. As such, alumni remain an important part of any institution. South West College thrives on input from its students’, be they past, present or even future, and there’s nothing we like more than hearing from them.
Our students’ are the foundation of everything we do, and we love keeping up to date on their whereabouts, finding out what career path they have chosen after graduating, any success stories they would like to share, and much more…
Who are South West College Alumni?
Our Alumni community includes students from all eras, from those who first studied with us during our time as both Technical Colleges and College of Further Education respectively during the 19th and 20th centuries, to the more modern days of South West College, which formed in 2007, when Enniskillen, Omagh, and Dungannon joined forces to become a ‘super’ college.
What We’ve been up to so far…
Since the alumni project began in early 2017, there is now a network of over 200 alumni already signed up, with more joining on a daily basis, and their stories are coming in thick and fast.
These stories will be published in the near future, but just to give you an idea of what some of our students have been up to since graduating, on our system we already have two European champion boxers, a world champion kick boxer, two nationally and internationally recognised actors, numerous entrepreneurs, successful business people, and senior management members in both the private and public sectors, including health trust organisations. The list goes on….
The one thing that these people, who have all had success in their own right, have in common is the high regard in which they hold South West College. One quote which sums up the general sense from across the feedback states:
SWC provided me with the platform needed to propel myself through each challenge faced to start my career. All in all, I think SWC was where my career began.
